Case
Elaine is a 78-year-old woman with hypertension and is on multiple medications. She is concerned about memory changes and has read that well-controlled blood pressure will protect her from dementia.

Introducing: the Section of Family Medicine

The Section of General Practice officially became the Section of Family Medicine at its Annual General Meeting on September 26.

The new name more accurately describes the work being done by family physicians every day. The term "family medicine" recognizes the specialized care offered by family physicians and communicates the important role they play in the lives of their patients and in the health care system as a whole.

chronic pain and addiction?

Join the ACFP Collaborative Mentorship Network!

The Alberta College of Family Physicians Collaborative Mentorship Network for Chronic Pain and Addiction provides a secure and inclusive space, allowing members to consult with peers and grow their understanding of chronic pain and addiction. Whether it be through one-on-one mentoring, exchanging knowledge in forums and discussion boards, or deepening understanding at education workshops and events, family physicians can build long term mentoring relationships tailored to their needs.

"I have recognized addiction and chronic pain as being a significant part of my practice since starting medicine... I see the mentorship model as something of great value; a network of family physicians and specialists sharing knowledge with the goal of timely advice and better patient care." - CMN Medical Director, Dr. Cathy Scrimshaw
