CII making a difference for specialists and patients

Community Information Integration (CII) is new technology that enables community specialists using a Microquest, QHR or TELUS electronic medical record to upload consult reports to Alberta Netcare.

A community specialist has already seen the difference CII can make for his patients. The day after a consult report was posted for his patient, the specialist received a phone call from an emergency department physician, and based on that conversation, the ED physician had no need to call for additional hospital consultations. The specialist was able to follow up with the patient, advise them of what they should do over the weekend and arrange their next appointment with him for the following Monday.
In another case, “the patient ended up being admitted, but because of my [specialist consult] letter, they didn't necessarily need to go through a group of other specialists because the admitting team knew that I would follow-up; and they just contacted me after discharge… I think on a go-forward basis it's going to be nice, especially if more people use it, you can kind of see who is actually seeing people in the community.”

CII is distinct technology from Connect Care, which will replace clinical information systems currently in place in Alberta Health Services facilities. View Connect Care Community Provider Resources.
