Call for Nominations: Achievement Awards, Member Emeritus & CMHF Laureate

The AMA is seeking nominations for the following:
  • Medal for Distinguished Service
  • Medal of Honor
  • AMA Award for Compassionate Service
  • AMA Member Emeritus Distinction
  • Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Laureate
The Medal for Distinguished Service is given to a physician(s) who has made an outstanding personal contribution to medicine and to the people of Alberta, and in the process has contributed to the art and science of medicine while raising the standards of medical practice.

The Medal of Honor is awarded to a non-physician(s) who has raised the standards of health care and contributed to the advancement of medical research, medical education, health care organization, health education and/or health promotion to the public.

The AMA Award for Compassionate Service
 honors a physician who is an AMA member and, during their career, has demonstrated outstanding compassion, philanthropy and/or volunteerism to improve the state of the community in which they are giving back. 

Nominations for the above awards must be submitted by
April 30. The awards will be presented at the AMA’s fall 2021 annual general meeting.

The Committee on Achievement Awards recommended that the AMA confer special recognition in 2020 on specialists in Public Health and Preventive Medicine for their hard work during the COVID-19 pandemic. To read more, visit the AMA website.

The AMA Member Emeritus distinction 
recognizes significant contributions to the association and long-term membership (20 years). Nominees must be unanimously approved by the AMA Board of Directors.

Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Laureate
The AMA’s Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for the CMHF Laureates. The committee will discuss and identify the AMA’s nominee for the 2022 CMHF at its upcoming meeting in late February. If you know of a worthy candidate, we would love to know about them in order to increase our pool for consideration.
