AMA Section of Family Medicine/Section of Rural Medicine Update STAND WITH US! Renew your AMA membership
As we face the challenges that lie ahead for physicians in Alberta, every AMA membership renewal counts. We must stand together in the face of government’s attempts to divide and conquer physicians. The AMA is our voice in Alberta and is best positioned to advocate for physicians, patients and the future of our health care system.
The AMA’s ability to support physicians as we stand together on behalf of patients and each other will be determined by continued membership in our Association. The next two years will be pivotal. Practically speaking, every single membership makes the AMA better equipped to fight back against government changes that we know are threatening us and our patients. Renewing your membership is the first and most important way that you can contribute to this fight. Take a look at how your membership dues will make a difference.
Every family physician is encouraged to renew not only their AMA and CMA memberships, but also their Section of Family Medicine or Section of Rural Medicine memberships. Our sections provide a conduit between our specialty, the AMA, government and other stakeholder groups. To strengthen our voice in the health care system, we need wide representation from the diverse world of family medicine. We need your perspective, your insight and your ideas.
AMA sections ensure that issues and concerns related to all areas of medicine are addressed. Section dues support the following: - Ensuring the economic health of sections in negotiations and allocation processes within the Physician Services Budget
- Advocating for you both inside and outside the AMA
- Setting the direction of the AMA through section delegates to the AMA Representative Forum (RF)
- Clinical care and leadership initiatives
Active section membership also allows you to vote in our section's elections.
The AMA realizes that times are hard and that some of the purely economic drivers for membership are different now. They have prepared a document that details why you should renew your membership to show how the AMA will continue deliver in essential areas over the next two years (e.g. negotiations, our lawsuit, representing physicians, public advocacy, etc.). The AMA has cut costs and redirected funds in order to focus resources where they are most needed. For example, the budget for representation and negotiations has doubled.
