General surgery questions in Edmonton?
Ask a surgeon through Alberta Netcare eReferral Advice Request
Surgery – General Surgery is now accepting eReferral Advice Requests in the Edmonton Zone. Physicians and their clinical support staff may ask non-urgent clinical questions about colorectal, gallbladder, hernia, benign breast tumor, suspected breast cancer, suspected gastrointestinal cancer and other general surgery issues, and can expect to receive a response from a General Surgeon within five calendar days.
“eReferral is an innovative system that increases access to specialty advice,” says Dr. Jonathan White, Senior Medical Director, Surgery SCN, Alberta Health Services. “Advice received can help clinicians either manage their patient in their medical home or determine whether an in-person referral is required. This can better help triage patient care and help patients see the right people at the right time.”

CII/CPAR: Have you paneled your patients yet?
To date we have 143 family doctors and 65 specialists using the Community Information Integration/Central Patient Attachment Registry to panel their patients. That’s data uploaded and shared into Alberta Netcare from over 52,300 unique patients! Positive feedback continues to come in from specialists and family physicians using CII/CPAR, including from Dr. Steve Tilley, a cardiologist with the Healthy Heart Institute.
What is CII/CPAR and how will it enhance patient care?
CII/CPAR, a joint initiative between the AMA, Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services, is the chosen vehicle to integrate community EMRs with two-way data flow. CII/CPAR will enable clinics to identify if patients are paneled to other providers, facilitating a coordinated care management approach to service delivery and achieve better patient, provider and system outcomes.
