Simplify your referrals with Alberta Referral Directory

The Alberta Referral Directory (ARD) is Alberta Health Services’ designated system of record for referral information. It is comprised of service and consultant demographics, referral guidelines, referral forms and detailed instructions to facilitate referral acceptance without delay. It provides a place to document compliance with three of the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta’s mandated referral communication turnaround targets:

Communicate referral received within seven days to referral source
Communicate appointment details within 14 days to patient and referral source
Communicate outcome of initial appointment within 30 days to referral source

What's new from Alberta Referral Directory?

Authentication-free access

Health care providers can now view ARD referral information at albertareferraldirectory.ca without logging in, making it easier to search and select the right services for patients.

Enhanced content

The ARD is implementing a strategic quality assurance program across the province to improve and update the content. There are more than 3,800 searchable service profiles with an average optimization rating of 91% as of August 2019 and more than 5,300 searchable physician profiles.

Connect Care

Connect Care and the ARD are partnering to ensure that health care providers can easily access the ARD when sending referrals. The goal is for providers to have the right decision support resources at their fingertips. More details to come.

Is your ARD consulting physician profile up to date?

To complete your ARD profile and link it to the places you practice, visit albertareferraldirectory.ca and selecting “Edit your ARD profile.” By keeping your information current, not only are you are helping your colleagues by making the referral process easy, you’re also ensuring good and timely care for Albertans. It can help reduce workload burden, save time, reduce operating costs and improve patient satisfaction and safety. It eases the complexities of the referral process by eliminating the need to search, update and publish documents in multiple places throughout the province.
